Q. If an employee has an annual leave entitlement, should their available leave balance up to a certain date in the year be pro-rated when I check it on the calendar?
A. This depends on the annual leave calculation method you’ve selected. If you’ve set the annual leave entitlement to “Set Number of Annual Leave Days per Annum,” BrightPay will usually display the full annual allowance. However, if there is a start or leave date within the year, the software will automatically pro-rate the annual leave based on the portion of the year the employee is employed.
Q. How can I track days in lieu in BrightPay when an employee works extra days?
A. You can record days in lieu by adding them to the employee’s annual leave entitlement:
- Go to Employees and select the relevant employee.
- Open the Calendar tab.
- Select the relevant day and click Edit on the right.
- Use the options to add additional annual leave and, if needed, add a note (e.g. “Day in lieu for extra day worked”).
Q. If I use daily rates, will the holiday still accrue for my employee?
A. The holiday accrual methods; either 8% on the hourly hours processed or the 117 hours per month method will only accrue if hours are processed in hours on the employee's payslip and not if daily rates or periodic pay such as weekly pay / monthly pay is used.
