Under the Sick Leave Act 2022, eligible employees in Ireland are entitled to 5 paid sick days per year. To qualify, the employee must have worked for you for at least 13 continuous weeks and provide a medical certificate from their doctor. SSP is paid at 70% of the employee's daily earnings, up to a maximum of €110 per day.
How to add certified sick leave in BrightPay Cloud:
- Go to the Employees tab and select the employee
- Open their Calendar
- Select the sick days on the calendar > click 'Sick leave' from the leave options on the right hand side, then choose 'Certified Sick Leave'
- Click back to the Payroll tab
- Under Parenting Benefits and Statutory Pay, click Add
- Select Calculate Statutory Sick Pay
- Confirm the employee is eligible for certified sick leave — this step is essential. Without completing the calculate step, the sick pay will not appear on the payslip
- If the calculation is correct, click Save
The sick leave will now appear on the employee's payslip.
Important note: BrightPay will not automatically reduce or adjust the employee's hours or periodic pay to account for the sick leave. Any adjustments to regular pay for the sick period must be made manually by the payroll processor.
