When you move from Thesaurus Payroll Manager to BrightPay Cloud, you may notice that benefit amounts calculated per pay period do not always match exactly between the two systems. This is because Thesaurus Payroll Manager and BrightPay use slightly different calculation methods at the period level. Over the full tax year, the totals line up, but individual pay period amounts can differ.
To ensure the imported Thesaurus Payroll Manager benefit payment amounts are respected in BrightPay, we’ve introduced a new “Override Notional Pay” feature.
How it works for Thesaurus Payroll Manager imports
- When you import data from Thesaurus Payroll Manager, BrightPay brings in the exact benefit payment amounts from Thesaurus Payroll Manager for each pay period.
- These imported benefit amounts are automatically marked as overridden in BrightPay.
- This means BrightPay will use the Thesaurus Payroll Manager amounts directly, rather than recalculating them using BrightPay’s own per‑period method.
This keeps your figures consistent with what you had in Payroll Manager, even if BrightPay would otherwise calculate slightly different per‑period amounts.
Using benefit amount overrides manually
The override feature is also available for you to use directly in BrightPay, outside of any Thesaurus Payroll Manager, import.
If you need to manually change a benefit payment amount:
- Open the employee’s open payslip within the Payroll menu
- Click on the spanner icon beside the Benefit
- Click on the Override Notional Pay button next to the benefit amount.
- The previously read‑only amount field will become editable.
- Enter the amount you want BrightPay to use for that period.
Once overridden, BrightPay will use the amount you’ve entered rather than the automatically calculated value.
Repeat this process each pay period if required.
You can remove the override at any time if you want BrightPay to go back to calculating the benefit amounts automatically.
